Day 4: First Steps In Build In Public
🎯 Today’s Goal
I decided to openly share my build in public journey. I’ll take a 2-3 day break from development to start the necessary work for building in public and aim to finish it within 2-3 days.
✅ What I Did
- Hugo installation & will use it together with Obsidian
- Reviewed hextra , hugo-bearblog and PaperMod themes
- Extensive customizations on hugo-bearblog
- Cloudflare DNS configuration
- Email account creation with Cloudflare Email Routing
- SSL certificate purchase from SSLS.com
- Prepared
deploy.yml
file for GitHub Actions - FTP installation on server and deployment testing
- Prepared “About” page
- Created templates for “Journey” and “Articles”
🔄 For Tomorrow
- Open Reddit account
- Open Twitter account
💡 Thoughts
I set up a small blog for my build in public shares. The customization process took longer than I expected. After deployment, buildopen.dev
started redirecting to yourdomain.bedpage.com
. At first, I suspected the temporary meta refresh redirect I had set up. Everything looked normal in the local environment, but the redirect behaved differently in prod. I solved the problem by changing the Hugo page structure, but I still haven’t found the exact reason for the redirect. Could one of the Chrome extensions I developed have affected it? ⌛
Another challenge was that Yandex had removed its free business email service. I wasted time on this but quickly solved it with Cloudflare Email Routing.
Many ideas emerged today, and I archived the ones I found valuable. I haven’t had a chance to validate them yet 😀
